When was the last time you were excited about a database server? With waves of Web 2.0 applications arriving, are the incrementally improved big iron databases really keeping your attention? Valentina Community Server is simpler, faster, better – much, much faster! And its free – an unlimited connection database server based on incredible technology.

VCS: Why You Will Love it
VCS is based on the Valentina 3.x kernel architecture - the fruit of kernel optimization for operational speed since 1998. Based on its unique architecture, you can also optimize your solutions by creating fewer and much smaller tables compared to other servers.

So It's Very Fast. What Else?
VCS is an advanced SQL database server (SQL 92 + SQL 2003 extensions) including support for: Triggers, Stored Procedures, Views, User Variables and more. In addition, Unicode, XML import/export, Hot Back Up and Event Scheduling. Plus you get access to special Valentina features like binary links and modern, object-relational design (without forcing you into a particular design pattern).

Getting Your Web Apps Talking to VCS
Valentina Community Server has built in support for PHP 4.0 or higher. VCS utilizes PEAR and ADO DB for connectivity. Support of RUBY is coming!
[php4] [php5] [PEAR] [ADO DB]

What are the System Requirements?
VCS runs officially on several linux distributions but let us know of your success running it on others! The officially supported distributions for x86 processors are:
  • Ubuntu 6.x or higher
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 or higher
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (with libstdc++ 4.0.2 or higher)
  • [Win] [UB] [PEAR API]

Porting PHP Apps from mySQL to Valentina?
Valentina PHP module was designed to be as close as possible to the mySQL implementation to make porting your apps a snap. Start with a simple find/replace of the "mysql_" prefix to "val_" in your code.

Anybody Have a Successful Port from mySQL?
VDN solution provider Thorsten Hohage of objectmanufactur developed an EOF-like database framework that was originally based around mySQL. Mr Hohage reports that he ported the solution to Valentina in less than four hours. Now large SELECT statements that ran upwards of five minutes take less than five seconds under Valentina 3.

"The advancements culminating in Valentina 3 make Valentina a worthy successor to mySQL projects that require better performance for complex queries. I am profoundly happy over our move to Valentina." said Thorsten Hohage.

Why Haven't I heard of Valentina Before?
Paradigma Software launched Valentina 1.x in 1998 and has been supplying developers ever since with ultra fast developer SDKs. Almost every educational publisher in North America has licensed Valentina for their solutions. Japanese camera company Nikon Corporation uses Valentina in the software they bundle with their digital cameras. We've been here supplying cool database technology for almost a decade - now is the time to discover Valentina.
