Beaverton, Oregon based Paradigma Software, Incorporated is happy to announce that Valentina for Director fully supports the recently announced Adobe Director 11, and the release of fully Director 11 compliance on the Mac OS X platform.

The new release includes three components: two on Mac OS X, and one on the Windows platform. These include:

A Carbon based version of Valentina for Director 3.5.2 that is backwards compatible with previous versions of Director.

A Universal Binary Version of Valentina for Director 3.5.2, compatible with Director 11 on Mac OS X.

Valentina for Director 3.5.2 on the Windows platform, which has a single component and is fully backwards compatible by itself to Director 8.

A major new feature of Director 11 is full Unicode support. Although Valentina supports over 200+ encodings (all supported by previous versions of Director, such as Director MX 2004 and earlier), Valentina core technology is based on UTF-16, the most comprehensive version of Unicode for working with not only western but far eastern languages. Valentina is fully compatible with Director’s unicode implementation.

“With the experience of working with major Asian corporations like Nikon Corporation, we knew that UTF-16 was the best route, since searching for variations on proper names in languages like Japanese and Chinese hit roadblocks if you only have UTF-8 support,” said Ruslan Zasukhin, Vice President of Engineering at Paradigma Software.

Because of the dual release, it is possible for Mac OS X client applications built with either the Carbon or Universal Binary versions of Valentina for Director to communicate transparently with Valentina Office Server or Valentina Embedded Server, regardless of the operating system on the server-side. Transformations between the non-Unicode Carbon version and the Unicode Based Valentina Server are handled transparently.

Valentina for Director is available in two configurations: V4MD ADK Versions for deploying local, database projects, and Valentina Developer Network, that also adds the ability to deploy, royalty free - local, client-server, and server-only database solutions. V4MD ADKs begin at $199, and Valentina Developer Network begins at $599.

Valentina is a true business ready database with SQL support, Unicode, XML import/export, stored procedures, strong encryption, over 60 code examples and free community level support. Valentina also supports innovations like virtual pivot tables, custom system tables and other advanced features not available elsewhere. It is also attractive to Director developers because it can run off of any media, offers massive text compression routines, optional picture compression and is Shockwave safe. Valentina for Director supports a special “Execute Any SQL” function that accelerates your development.

Valentina Server (Embedded and Office) run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and also adds advanced server properties, event scheduling and hot back up. You can also script Valentina Server with PHP and Ruby on Rails. Importing legacy databases is easy with Valentina Studio - included with VDN and Office Server - utilizing ODBC.

To celebrate the release, all Valentina Developer Network for Director orders, for a limited time, will also include a free copy of Valentina SSL Adapter (a $100 value), an add-on to Valentina Embedded Server that enables SSL only and mixed unsecured/SSL communications with Valentina Embedded Server.

FAST DATABASE VENDOR GIVES A FREE STD ADK TO EACH CUSTOMER

Beaverton, Oregon-based Paradigma Software, Inc and publisher Mirye Software Publishing announce the 10th anniversary of Valentina with a special giveaway: a free copy of a Valentina ADK Standard Edition to developers working on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux.

Between Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2008) and President’s Day (February 18, 2008), registered developers can choose a free copy of Valentina 2.5.8 ADK Standard Edition. The giveaway is available on the Paradigma website at http://www.valentina-db.com/en/gift.

Just visit the giveaway page, register, then select the operating system (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux as available) and development environment used. Choices for environments include:

•    Apple Cocoa (Objective-C)
•    Adobe/Macromedia Director
•    REAL Software REALbasic
•    Mirye  Runtime Revolution
• Microsoft COM (Visual Basic, Delphi)
•    Microsoft  .NET Framework
•    Windows  C++ (Visual Studio)
•    Linux C++ (GCC compatible)
•    Mac OS X C++ (xCode)

Developers can then download the archives and receive developer codes.

With Valentina 2.5.8 Standard ADK, a developer can embed a local copy of the Valentina database runtime, and distribute their applications royalty free. This version of Valentina is fully upgradeable, both to Valentina ADKs as well as Valentina Developer Network, a product that allows royalty free distribution of Valentina Embedded Server. Because Valentina was originally developed for high performance and security on a network, transitioning projects to client-server or web application implementations only improve performance.

Valentina Database technology was first developed and released by Paradigma founder and VP of Engineering Ruslan Zasukhin in 1998. The company has since moved headquarters to the United States, and opened or entered into agreements for representative offices in Germany and Japan.

“Database performance became sexy again with Valentina. Many vendors claim superior performance, however after importing millions of records into Valentina and performing a head to head comparison in executing complex SQL statements, you will understand why developers have chosen Valentina for their cross-platform applications,” said Ruslan Zasukhin, VP of Engineering.

In addition to being an industry compliant, SQL database system, with full support for standards like Unicode, encryption, and XML import/export, Valentina is based on a unique object-relational model. This unique model is why Valentina executes SQL statements often hundreds of times faster than competing technologies such as MySQL, MS SQL Server and FileMaker Server – even with millions of records. Since interface plug-ins to every major development environment are provided by Paradigma, Valentina is able to take advantage of native environment features and frameworks.

You can learn more about this special offer either on the Paradigma Software or Mirye web sites.

Developers who deploy Ruby applications on Mac OS X 10.4 or higher on Intel or PPC now have a native driver interface. Developers who deploy web applications using Ruby on Rails can now build applications around Valentina Embedded Server or Valentina Office Server on Mac OS X.
Valentina technology release 3.4 incorporates new tracking and monitoring features for Valentina databases – locally and remotely on a network.

Show Status. It is now possible to show the current status of Valentina objects, servers, databases, tables and links, allowing highly granular monitoring, such as numbers of records added in a set amount of time, how many temp tables are created or how many SQL queries are in the query pool.

Support for SQL binding for SELECT statements. This enable using a query pool.

Beaverton, Oregon. Paradigma Software, Incorporated, makers of the ultrafast database system Valentina, announces an initiative to provide easy migration of applications built around MySQL AB ’s MySQL database server for developers who work with REAL Software’s REALbasic cross-platform development environment.

With the release of REALbasic 2007 R4, REALbasic no longer includes a MySQL driver with its products on Linux, Windows and MacOS X. The developer now directs users to utilize a third party, commercial ODBC driver for working with MySQL servers. The previously supported driver was turned over to a third party developer.

Valentina already offers significant ease of use in porting from MySQL to Valentina. Porting PHP based web applications can be as simple as a search and replace on a string prefix. REALbasic developers utilizing the built in RBDB API and SQL will find these methods substantially reduce conversion to Valentina as Valentina natively supports these methods. Valentina Studio, the cross-platform database administration tool makes direct conversion a snap.

During the month of September 2007, REALbasic users can save up to $200 on the tools they need to covert their MySQL based solutions to Valentina. Single connection Valentina for REALbasic Professional ADK and higher can be ordered for $100 below list price. Valentina Developer Network, which allows unlimited, royalty free deployment of a true, network ready database server Valentina Embedded Server, is available at $200 less than list price.

Valentina for REALbasic is one of the first commercial plugins released with support for REALbasic, and includes over 50 code examples, online documentation and an open source bindings framework developed especially for REALbasic developers. Valentina for REALbasic solutions are available on Windows, MacOS X and Linux. Individual operating system solutions are available at $199, directly from Paradigma Software. Valentina Community Server is available for free.

Stored Procedures, Linux Support and Advanced Server Features

Beaverton, Oregon-based Paradigma Software, Inc announces release version 3 of Valentina Office Server and Valentina Developer Network for deploying royalty free, standalone and client-server applications. This major release provides the greatest number of overall improvements to the platform since the release of Valentina 2 in March 2005, while providing backward compatibility with existing solutions built with Valentina 2.x.

The following new features were added to the entire product line of Valentina 3:

Stored Procedures. Stored procedures allow business logic to be stored within the database and then executed when called; this is highly beneficial for reducing network traffic.

Triggers. Triggers allow events to be executed when conditions are met within a database or database table.

Views. Views are a form of virtual table based on the results of a query, allowing dynamic glimpses into data stored in the database.

Hot Back Up. Both standalone applications and Valentina Server based solutions can be automatically backed up and time stamped while running.

Mac OS X Unicode Improvements. Because of improved support from Apple, Inc, Valentina can access the operating system version of ICU, reducing the overall size of deployable Valentina 3 components on the platform.

Backwards Compatibility. Because only modest changes were made to the Valentina format, users can safely test their existing Valentina 2.5.x databases with Valentina 3.

Valentina 3 Server solutions also include features specific to the platform:

Event Scheduler. This allows execution of events on the server to automatically occur periodically.

User Variables. Server solutions can get and set user variables on a per database basis.

Improved Packet Based Protocol. Performance improvements with Server communications builds on previous releases that allow greater compatibility between different versions of clients and servers.

Paradigma Software is also announcing new operating system support for Valentina Office Server and most developer products: native Linux support. This includes Valentina Developer Network support for Linux targets with REAL Software REALbasic, Runtime Revolution, C++, and Valentina Embedded Server, including server scripting with PHP 4/5+ and Ruby on Rails framework. Core Valentina 3 technology is officially supported on Ubuntu 7.x, SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and Red Hat Desktop, with compatibility with x86 based distributions running GTK 2.x.

The release of Valentina 3 also has hundreds of minor performance improvements and solutions to customer reported issues.

Valentina Developer Network solution provider Thorsten Hohage of objectmanufactur developed an EOF-like database framework that was originally based around mySQL. Mr Hohage reports that he ported the solution to Valentina in under four hours. Now large SELECT statements that ran upwards of five minutes take less than five seconds under Valentina 3. “The advancements culminating in Valentina 3 make Valentina a worthy successor to mySQL projects that require better performance for complex queries. I am profoundly happy over our move to Valentina.” said Thorsten Hohage.

Valentina database products, available on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, are based on the unique Valentina database engine – an object-relational database engine known for extreme speed. When porting to Valentina, hours become minutes, minutes become seconds when it comes to storing, retrieving and querying databases. Valentina supports all modern standards – native Unicode, XML import/export and ODBC connectivity.

Valentina Developer Network Platform Edition includes a set of tools for all supported operating systems of one development environment – and allows deployment of Valentina Embedded Database Server, royalty free. In addition, VDN Platform Edition includes reseller options, VDN Platform Edition sells for $599. Developers that want to build only local database solutions can license Valentina ADK products, starting at $199.
