Our friends who attended the Xojo Developer Conference 2014 had a shot at winning one of three packages including Valentina Studio Pro + Valentina ADK for Xojo. Because of log in problems and miscommunication, it really didn't happen like we anticipated. So we are offering a super-dumb alternative contest instead.

We want to give our friends another chance to win. What the prizes are, are three "sets" of the following:

  • Valentina Studio Pro Universal (yes, the $399 one!)
  • Valentina XXX ADK for XXX (one OS version; value $199)

By XXX, we mean you can choose either Valentina Database ADK or Valentina Reports ADK. And the other XXX means you can pick the platform. This keeps the contest interesting for those of you who already have the Xojo ADKs and are thinking about adding another platform, like Java, Cocoa/Objective-C or one of the many other platforms we support.

What do you need to do to enter?

  • Register on this site (needed to win the prize)
  • Take a picture of yourself, next to your computer, with Valentina Studio on the screen
  • Post the picture in this thread

Three winners will be selected at random.

Special Rule: You may use one photo, but if you are holding a pet (cat, dog, pygmy goat, etc), we will treat your entry as a double entry (your chances to win are doubled). Multiple pets do not increase your chances to win, and they must be unique pets. Exceptionally fat cats are encouraged but do not increase your chances of winning.

IMPORTANT: Getting enough responses is important! If we get fewer than 10 entries on this contest, then it will be canceled without declaring winners. So if you also enter a spouse as a separate entry, they must also be holding a different pet. Humans in costumes do not count as pets.

Warnings we have to make because governing authorities like to put pins in the party hog:

  • This contest is void where prohibited
  • You must be a legal adult to enter
  • This contest is governed exclusively under the laws of the State of Oregon

The contest ends Monday, September 30, 2015 at 11:59 PM, Pacific Standard Time.

Yahoo! I won.

I've put in a Trouble Ticket. I just want to say thank you to Lynn and Ruslan for having the contest. It was a lot fun.

Best Regards,
Johnny

Id like to thank everyone who participated!

Okay, so here's what we did. Each entry that included only a human got an entry. Each entry that also included a pet also got an entry. So if you entered a picture with a pet, you effectively got two entries.

The grand prize winners are:

  • Johnny Harris
  • Scott
  • Peter Salomon

If you are a grand prize winner, I need to know what Xojo ADK you would like (Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, and either DB or Reports). Grand prize winners also get a copy of Valentina Studio Universal.

But Ruslan and I hate to see grown men and women cry (we would make an except for Larry Ellison), so those who didn't bag a Grand Prize can get a runner up prize: a free copy of Valentina Studio Pro!

Runner up prize winners are:

  • Dirk Cleenwerck
  • Klaus Heeder
  • Joy Schneemann

Thank you all for participating! Let us know your prize preference by a message through Trouble Tickets - include your user name, and your choice of the software - put that through the Valentina Studio category.

Have a great week all!

I have to say, my two chihuahuas now insist on sitting on my desk while I am trying to work! But, all in all - I am glad that the developer community got together on this.

I am certain if the word got out about VDB - it would be mainstream. I can't say enough about it. I love it.

With a marathon fast approaching at the mouse house, we have no doubt that our VDB and VServer will stand up the load. It will handle over 24,000 runners, spectators, and assorted race course officials using DB apps we designed and GPS integrated tracking apps on both iOS and Android (gag) platforms all within about 6 hours.

In the 24 hours prior to race start, we enroll, manage, and maintain the records of all 24K runners. We use VReports to print a variety of race related docs: The runner's bibs, race agreements, contracts and assorted paperwork.

This is all handled on 5 Xserves with 2 Xraids <--- it screams.

Our production costs went from over $10K (<--- that's $10,000 dollars) in licensing with Oracle, Crystal Reports, and M$ server & CALs to barely $1750 with VDB on Macs.

Thanks Valentina!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone at Valentina for doing this contest. It was a lot of fun and those of us that had pets and could get them to stay still long enough for a snapshot got to show them off.

Looking forward to seeing who the lucky winner is, but I'm in no hurry for Monday to arrive. :)

In between release of an update on our software, and our team building event at work, I never had the time to follow up on this. Thanks for having extended the contest.
When is the draw for the winner?

Thank you Lynn,

How did you know? They love the bacon scented, but they prefer squirrel.

That's kind of funny because my wife had purchased two small pigs to raise the day before. ( I think her plan is to reduce the monthly food expenses... I hope that's the plan. ) I had been helping her with her pigs before she helped me take this picture, so it may have been the bacon aroma, but I hope they just like me.

I took a few minutes this afternoon to get a picture of my Toshiba i7 laptop w/ Valentina Studio 6 open and two of my squirrel dogs. The dog on the left is my 18 month old Original Mountain Cur (Bone Doc) and the pup on the right is my 9 month old Atomic Feist (Trixi). They are both really awesome companions and a real pleasure to watch working.

If anyone has seen the movie "Old Yeller"... the actual "Old Yeller" was an Original Mountain Cur, but the dog in the movie was a Lab. Original Mountain Curs were kept by most early settlers in the US, because of their above average hunting abilities, loyalty to family and fear of nothing. By the 1940's though the breed wasn't as popular and became rare. Luckily four men in 1956 were able to find a few curs for breeding and started the Original Mountain Cur Breeders Association, saving the breed.

Atomic Feist are a small terrier type breed that is well known for being able to sight, wind and trail game. They can cover alot of ground quickly and they tree hard. There are many different breeds considered Feist.

And most of all Valentina Studio 6 is the best database administration tool in the world.

Nice looking dogs!

Now you aren't wearing your bacon scented after shave to get that affection, are you Johnny? ;-)

I'll see if I can get my squirrel dog ( Original Mountain Cur ) to slow down enough to get a picture in the next couple of days.. It is pre-hunting season here and he's been training really hard.

I tried to get people enthusiastic about entering the contest, but unfortunately didn't succeed.
We didn't read the 10 people needed for the contest not to be canceled.
Can't say I'm not a bit disappointed.

Okay, this black thing is our dog "perla" and this other crazy looking thing holding her is me. you know what? valentina db and perla are some kind of a good team, ´cause perla can lick faster ones face as all the other dogs i know so far. believe me - one millisecond later i was completely "washed".

The cat is rather elusive. Just like a lot of cats, she chooses when she wants to be a pet and when she wants to be left alone.
Here's a picture of the office cat on my desk in 2013 though. I took that picture because it was so out of character for this cat to just sit on my desk.

PS: apparently some people are still having trouble logging in to the website (when trying to register). I seem to get in without problems though. They gave some indication of what problems they encountered on the xojo forum. I also let them know on the xojo forum that you might extend the contest a little longer.

These are great so far. Dirk, don't forget you get a double chance to win if you have a pet in your picture!

We may extend this a little longer so we can get a few more votes in.
