What type of path can I use for the backup command? I'm trying to create an event in Valentina Studio I get an error "unexpected token" for

BACKUP DATABASE To "/Users/beatrixwillius/Documents" WITH DIAGNOSE

Usually, Valentina paths are shell paths in Xojo. Or did I mix up the "? I also tried ' and without.

It must be single quotes:

Thanks, that worked. I could swear that I tried this yesterday and it didn't work. Whatever.

Okay.

1. That the time is set to now is not a good one. This makes a nice terror inducing amount of kernel errors.

https://imgur.com/pTiWuEa.png

2. The calendar is wonky. Either it doesn't open and on High Sierra it doesn't close properly.

3. Now the fun facts: I've only got a small database for testing. 1 GB or so. The backup did nada - nothing - zilch.

4. And the one-time-backup is set to execute again in an hour.

Valentina 7.5 I think from 09-Feb-2018. I can't update to Valentina 8 right now. Problems 1, 2 and 4 aren't bad. But how do I get the backup to work.

I tried again and get the errors even with the time set to 8:15 (It's now 8:11). Am I doing something wrong?

I edited the event in Valentina Studio!

Well, this isn't good. There is not even an error message when the execution fails. Wanted to copy the SQL but this didn't work. So here is a screenshot from Valentina Studio:

https://imgur.com/YAJNyhO.png

I checked the logs and there is nothing.

What should I do now?

Why does the verbose level change when I change the log method in Valentina Studio?

Tried again with:

-- CREATE EVENT "event1" ---------------------------------------
USE master;

CREATE EVENT IF NOT EXISTS "event1"
FOR DATABASE "mail archiv"
ON SCHEDULE AT TIMESTAMP '03/28/2018 09:20:36:407' + INTERVAL 1 HOUR
ON COMPLETION NOT PRESERVE
ENABLED
DO BACKUP DATABASE;
-- -------------------------------------------------------------

This time the event wasn't executed.

Again manually:

USE master;
CREATE EVENT backup_db1_24 FOR "mail archiv"
ON SCHEDULE EVERY 1 DAY STARTS TIMESTAMP '28/03/2018 09:27:00'
DO
BACKUP DATABASE

Again not executed.

Any ideas?

Note, under Valentina Server the absolute path will be silently ignored and replaced with SystemBackupCatalog (see vServer INI).

Please check your SystemBackupCatalog (empty means "Backup" folder near vServer app).

Also, please check:

; 1 - Run scheduler.
; 0 - No scheduler.
ScheduleEnable=1

to be 1.

The backup is enabled. I triple checked this.

I changed the ini file to have

; The full path, where backups are stored. (Folder must exist)
; param absence - means - clients may choose any folder on the server.
; SystemBackupCatalog=‚/Volumes/SATA\ 1/Valentina\ Backups‘

Ah, lovely macOS. The quotes aren't correct. Corrected.

When I create the event manually the "Execute at" is empty. When I add something like

03/28/2018 15:15:00:000

I get the error "EOF reached" that I already posted above. Any change in Valentina to the right sidebar of the Event leads to the same error. Bug or feature?

I can't get this to execute. Here is a screenshot from Valentina Studio:

https://imgur.com/IgqFnJq.png

There is nothing in the logs:

https://imgur.com/2sObKez.png

I'm really frustrated.

Please check INI for:

ScheduleEnable=1

Most probably the scheduler is not running at all.
You should see in the log something like this one:
...
Wed Mar 28 2018 18:20:31.941726 (TID 140735968977728): Scheduler started
...

Also, you can check your schedule via SQL:

use master;
SHOW EVENTS OF "mail archiv"

Probably it should be:

...'03/28/2018 09:27:00'...

depends on your date-time settings.

About "nothing in the log" - it must be VerboseLevel=3.

@Ivan: sigh. Yes, this was the problem. The backups now work.

However, they are created at the VServer folder. Is there something wrong with the path:

SystemBackupCatalog=‚/Volumes/SATA\ 1/Valentina\ Backups‘

Some related questions:

- The backups are not incremental, correct?
- The backups aren't hot (with users), correct? The users are kicked out.
- Is it advisable to exclude the VServer database folder from other backups?
- Is it possible to send mails at execution/failure of the backup?

Please try this one:

SystemBackupCatalog=/Volumes/SATA 1/Valentina Backups

- The backups are not incremental, correct?

Yes.

- The backups aren't hot (with users), correct? The users are kicked out.

No. The users stay connected. Their calls are waiting until backup is completed.

- Is it advisable to exclude the VServer database folder from other backups?

"Backup Database" is not about "copy OS files". Internally, it works with low-level db structure (embedded files...).
You always call "backup" for the particular database, not for the folder.

- Is it possible to send mails at execution/failure of the backup?

Yes, you can do something like this one:

CREATE EVENT ....
...
DO
BACKUP DATABASE;
MAIL....;

Hi Ivan,

thanks for the information.

And no, the path didn't work. The backup still is created in the database folder.

The errors on alter events: is this the same as this Mantis issue here? http://www.valentina-db.com/bt/view.php?id=8138 ?

I have seen that I can send mails. But can I differentiate between success and failure? How do I get the error from the backup when it fails (harddisk dead, not enough space etc)?

Please, send me your vServer INI file because I'm out of ideas - whatever I suggest I try it on my side first, so it worked for me.

Most probably if you get a parser specific error (it is fixed now).

Please, mantis it. We have to think how to do it in a right way.

Sent the ini file and did a couple of feature requests.

Should

dim temp as string = theServer.GetVariable("SYSTEMBACKUPCATALOG")

work?
