Hi everyone, I've been recently asked to export a collection of newspaper articles stored within a series of old Valentina dbs - all created in 2000. I tried to open them using Valentina Studio 3.0 but with no luck... the utility function for converting them from version 1.x to 2.x does not work either. I also tired the old C/Java API, which seems to mess with the data within the dbs to the point it is useless. Is there any other way to export the content of these old dbs easily?
Thanks for your patience, help and attention,
Alberto

Hello Alberto,

Did you use Valentina Studio 3.5.3 for Windows?

Yes, I used that version - I downloaded it from the 'previous releases' section.
I tried a couple of different functionalities:
(i) File -> Open Database -> Select .vdb file (Nothing happens)
(ii) Utilities -> Convert_1_2 (It stops after a couple of seconds because of an 'unknown error' and creates a 3.x version of the db with just the first three rows)
The db I'm trying to get the articles from consists of a few files: a .vdb file, a .blb file, a .ind file and a .dat file.
Thanks for the help,
Alberto

Hi Alberto,

* Do you know that db v1 is not encrypted?

* Strange that Convert_1_2 does not works ... Many people have used it during years to convert.

* I have upload juts only into prev_releases yet version 4.5.1
Please check if it still have Convert_1_2 if yes please try it, maybe some fixes could be.

* on FTP yet I see 2.5.10 build. The most close to 1.x
In that times the most popular was V4RB and V4MD products.
V4RB - for REALbasic
and in Examples it have hade example Export/Import to export into CVS files, or XML file.

To run it, I guess it needs find old enough REALBasic
REALbasic becomes Xojo in 2013.
Our V4RB was stable for years.

Thanks for all your tips, I'll try them out as of today! - Btw, I know the db is not encrypted because when I check using the C/Java access API it says it's not encrypted and freely accessible.
Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes :)
